The MGM Grand’s sports book in Las Vegas released their 2013 Super Bowl odds today. Yes, I know that the two teams remaining standing at the end of this season were the Giants and the Patriots, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they are automatic favorites to repeat. In fact, far from it.
The odds are stacked against either the Giants or the Patriots making it back to the Super Bowl next year: over the previous eleven Super Bowls, the losing teams have only made the playoffs four times in the following season, not once advancing beyond the divisional round.
Of the winning teams over the last eleven years, the Patriots were the only team that was able to repeat. No other Super Bowl winner even made it back to the conference championships. Incidentally, the last defending Super Bowl champion to win a playoff game in the following year were the 2005 Patriots. Four of the last eleven Super Bowl winners failed to make the playoffs altogether in the following year.
After the break, we look at which teams the Vegas bookmakers see as the favorites for the Super Bowl next year.

ODDS TO WIN 2013 SUPER BOWL
| Team | Odds |
| New England Patriots | 5-1 |
| Green Bay Packers | 11-2 |
| Pittsburgh Steelers | 6-1 |
| Philadelphia Eagles | 6-1 |
| New York Giants | 8-1 |
| New Orleans Saints | 10-1 |
| San Francisco 49ers | 10-1 |
| San Diego Chargers | 12-1 |
| Houston Texans | 12-1 |
| Chicago Bears | 17-1 |
| Detroit Lions | 18-1 |
| Atlanta Falcons | 18-1 |
| Dallas Cowboys | 20-1 |
| Baltimore Ravens | 20-1 |
| New York Jets | 20-1 |
| Indianapolis Colts | 25-1 |
| Tennessee Titans | 30-1 |
| Cincinnati Bengals | 30-1 |
| Buffalo Bills | 50-1 |
| Kansas City Chiefs | 50-1 |
| Seattle Seahawks | 50-1 |
| Denver Broncos | 50-1 |
| Carolina Panthers | 50-1 |
| Miami Dolphins | 50-1 |
| St. Louis Rams | 50-1 |
| Oakland Raiders | 60-1 |
| Minnesota Vikings | 60-1 |
| Arizona Cardinals | 60-1 |
| Cleveland Browns | 75-1 |
| Tampa Bay Buccaneers | 100-1 |
| Washington Redskins | 125-1 |
| Jacksonville Jaguars | 150-1 |
Ten different teams have been crowned NFC champions in the last eleven years. Only the Cowboys, Falcons, Lions, Vikings, 49ers and the Redskins have not won an NFC Championship game over that span.
The Giants won the Super Bowl yesterday, but Vegas doesn't like their chances of repeating. Who is your favorite to take home the Lombardi Trophy next year, and which team looks to have all or most of the pieces in place to become the dominant team of the next four to five years?
Let us know who your NFL underdog is, and why.

The Colts are 25-1 odds?
really? Over the Bengals? Really?

#suckforluck bowl = #chanceatSuperBowl
thebigham - February 6, 2012
20-1? Wow!
I’ll be placing my bank account on that one.
Mikellie - February 6, 2012
Never question Andrew Luck I guess
Trueblue122 - February 6, 2012
i'm talking about the Cowboys.
Think you replied to the wrong one.
Mikellie - February 6, 2012
Ya whoops meant the one above lol
Trueblue122 - February 6, 2012
They understand emotion and parity to get the bets rolling earlier!
thebigham - February 6, 2012
Something has to be done after they lost big money on this year's game.
Jessy S - February 6, 2012
If Dallas plays its cards right in the offseason and Jerry does not trade away all of our picks I think Dallas has a great chance
Trueblue122 - February 6, 2012
And some NYG level luck
I’m not taking anything away from that championship run…but man so much luck. Every fumble bounced back their way!
DonMoosavi - February 6, 2012
it blows but some say they would rather be lucky than good
Trueblue122 - February 6, 2012
Anybody notice that Brady's overthrow of Welker ...
late in the 4th quarter was eerily similar to Romo’s overthrow of Myles in the first Giant game.
Both players were wide open, both QBs put a little more air on the ball, and at that point in the game, the resulting first down (if the ball was caught) would have allowed both teams to almost whittle down the clock to nothing (even if they were forced to punt). Either way, the Giants were very unlikely to score had either of those balls been caught.
That’s the difference between a 8-8 season and winning the Super Bowl. Football is a game of inches, and the best team doesn’t always win.
BTW — did anybody miss the blatant pass interference call against Chase Blackburn before the interception? He gives a two-hand shove to Gronkowski to get position on the ball.
Conn Cowboy - February 6, 2012
Welker should have had the catch....2 hands on it
McLovin9 - February 6, 2012
wouldn't call it "eerily similar"
McLovin9 - February 6, 2012
yeah, Romo's throw was much better
Terry - February 6, 2012
just like clockwork
Seanrude - February 6, 2012
yeah i think it was not overthrown but a little bit behind
to me it was brady’s fault
ratware - February 6, 2012
welker catches that 9x out of 10....
McLovin9 - February 6, 2012
well he got us accostumed to do great things but that doesn't make this his fault
the pass was not as good as it could,
ratware - February 6, 2012
It wasn't great but
Welker had plenty of time and space, made the adjustment (like all receivers are required to do) and had two hands on it. Should have caught it. There were three drops at the end of the game that made all the difference, while there were three or four great catches the Giant’s WR made. I think WRs really dialing in and making grea catches is under-appreciated. Kurt Warner’s SB win was directly attributable to his WRs really doing a great job for him.
I think if Welker makes that catch, the world is singing Brady’s praises today…
dunkman - February 6, 2012
can't disagree
but I do think both deserve blame. That was an EASY throw for Brady to make. The safety was still yards away. Walker was running like a bat out of hell full speed downfield, hes probably going to score a td if Brady puts it on him cause I doubt the Giants safety makes that tackle. He should have caught it, and Brady should have put it on him. Regardless, it wasn’t nearly as bad as the Branch drop which would’ve been a monumental game-changer.
I do agree wrs are the difference between a giants win and a pats win, as I think both qbs played well/great. And for that matter, lets not forget the Giants strength is their wr core, while the Pats is their TE core. Once Gronk was obviously ineffective, Brady had to rely on less reliable players.
foyesboys - February 6, 2012
If you're talking about the 3rd down Branch drop right after Welkers drop...
It was a terrible throw by Brady behind Branch, which allowed the trailing NYG defender to hit Branch. And the Welker drop was just as much Bradys fault as Welkers. Sure Welker has made that catch before, but Brady needs to put the ball in a better place with Welker wide open.
selke99 - February 6, 2012
Brady had all the time in the world
Welker didn’t have a shot at making that catch.
Jessy S - February 6, 2012
Because Brady overthrew Welker that is
And that forced Welker to try to stretch to make the catch.
Jessy S - February 6, 2012
Since Welker got both hands on it
I think he every chance in the world to catch it. And he said exactly that after the game. So did Collingsworth during the game.
People think QBs are going to 100% accurate on every throw. Not ever going to happen. WRs have to adjust to throws and make the catch.
dunkman - February 7, 2012
True
He did have both hands on it, but the Giants disrupted the play enough so that he would have to make an adjustment.
Jessy S - February 7, 2012
True
And you could file this one under scandal. Some Patriots players were caught dancing after the game according to Yahoo sports.
As for Kurt Warner, he would be 0-2 in Super Bowls had the ball on Tennessee’s final drive ended in the end zone when time expired on that game.
Jessy S - February 6, 2012
I like the Boys assuming we fix the OL ensuring Romo's health and then improve the D.
It’s doable too if we sign some quality FAs and use the draft to obtain BPAs to fill holes and depth..
pfloyd1 - February 6, 2012
jerry just got shown what a good 1/2 time show is lol ....
black-eyed peas was the worst……
IRONRAVEN - February 6, 2012
Yeah, but I'd rather look at Fergie than Madonna. LOL
pfloyd1 - February 6, 2012
I dont think Jerry had much to do with it
but Indiannapolis showed up Dallas… not that it was our fault but we were not great hosts
DonMoosavi - February 6, 2012
Yep, I had friends that made the trip from SF to Dallas for the SB. They said the entire transportation
system was a nightmare.
pfloyd1 - February 6, 2012
And they had a zip line.
Jessy S - February 6, 2012
Madonna sucked too
I dont want to watch her anymore, she is old and ugly now
Archie Barberio - February 6, 2012
they weren't even signing, that was lip synching
Archie Barberio - February 6, 2012
Nice presentation though
Have that presentation (stage, dancers, lights and such) with last years music from Black Eyed Peas and you would have a great super bowl halftime show. Now if they can only piece them together in the future. Also the commercials were disappointing and some didn’t even air which I saw and know they were better (Doritos Bird of Prey)
ProBowlFactory - February 6, 2012
I kind of disagree a bit with ya there Chi
But since I’m thinking ( by your younger sounding voice) per your radio show, by the way is pretty awesome, I would probably say the same thing. When you get to be my age maybe you will appreciate a woman that old, looking that good and doing what she does. I’ve never been a fan of hers and it is kind of sad seeing her clinging to her youth, but you’ve gotta admit she did put on a darn good show. Money talks, bullshit walks.
letsgtld - February 6, 2012 via mobile
I think Madonna is pretty hot for 53 year old
Terry - February 6, 2012
Fergy.... Yumm........
letsgtld - February 6, 2012 via mobile
You must be old as hell
I’ll take the black eyed peas over a geriatric Madonna any day.
matt575 - February 7, 2012 via mobile
I keep thinking about the Jets', Lions', Pats' and GMen's first game.
!2-4 and who knows what may have happened. We are not that far away. The schedule will be tougher next year, but I see a vastly improved football team.
pfloyd1 - February 6, 2012
releasing TNEW makes us better right out of the gate
McLovin9 - February 6, 2012
sad but true
Trueblue122 - February 6, 2012
because it gives us 5mil more in cap money?
Id rather have TOld as my 4th CB than Alan freaking Ball.
StarloverinWNC - February 6, 2012
I don't know.
I didn’t much care for watching a Track and Field event when I thought I was supposed to be watching a football game.
Jace M - February 6, 2012
The Packers will be tough again next year. I bet their FO has the team in good salary cap shape also. Add onto that they are probably getting 4 comp picks in addition to their regular 7. Pack’s gonna be a contender for a while.
StarloverinWNC - February 6, 2012
Only thing is
Didn’t the Pack just lose their director of player/personal or something? Will that affect their draft, signings ect…?
letsgtld - February 6, 2012 via mobile
I dunno. McCarthy is pretty savvy though. With Rodgers they always have a chance.
StarloverinWNC - February 6, 2012
yup, Pack will be back
letsgtld - February 6, 2012 via mobile
I think so too
and even more determined.
dunkman - February 6, 2012
And with 11 picks
They will likely be much improved on defense, and this is a defensive draft.
Jessy S - February 6, 2012
Exactly
I expect they will go heavy on D
dunkman - February 7, 2012
A lot of teams will go defense.
Jessy S - February 7, 2012
My darkhorse would be Cincinnati @ 30-1
Probably not next year though. They are going to get some great draft picks for a couple years with the fleecing they gave Atlanta.
StarloverinWNC - February 6, 2012
browns fleeced atl
liquidblake - February 6, 2012
ah yer right, knew it was one of them AFC North teams.
But meh…the Browns not gonna get their with McCoy Im afraid. They got a rough path ahead indeed.
Cinci seems to be headed the right direction at least.
StarloverinWNC - February 6, 2012
Cinci fleeced the Raiders
that is what you were thinking I think. They get a first this year and most likely a second rounder next year for Carson Palmer.
ProBowlFactory - February 6, 2012
Your right!
My head is still cloudy from yelling at the TV. F’n Giants.
StarloverinWNC - February 6, 2012
Me
I was hoping against hope that the Patriots would win.
Anyway, my darkhorse would have to be the Redskins.
Jessy S - February 6, 2012
I like the Saints at 10-1
as far as the Cowboys go, I would do one of those bets where you put down like 300 before the season starts on them and if they win the Super Bowl you win 2300
my friend did that with the Giants this year, won 2300 bucks, was really happy for him
Archie Barberio - February 6, 2012
When the cards sign Peyton
Those 60-1 odds will look mighty fine
neon greon - February 6, 2012
Winter has officially set in now
and with it comes cabin fever -you know the insanity that starts with the combine(s) and ends with the Draft.
Then Spring will come and camps will open. The long slumber and crazy dreams that have haunted us will fade as hopes of a fresh new year with new faces arrives.
There will be talk of what Joe has done in their lifting programs. How the D looks rejuvenated cause they have figured out the schemes and learned the communications. And the redhead wil be beaming with new plays.
And all will be right with the world.
Once winter passes again

Dream Team!!... part 2
BrickTop - February 6, 2012 via mobile
I'd love for them to get all lathered up again this offseason
only for our two teams to compete for the division at the end again.
BigBlueIntervention - February 6, 2012
Yahn.... ( andy bear wakes up from over eating coma all winter/summer hibernation)
Oh no! I’ve gotta get these guys ready for the Cowboys! What? Its September? NOOOO-AHM-DI!!!!!
letsgtld - February 6, 2012 via mobile
The Eagles just might be damn good this year, god I hope not.
DIRE WOLF - February 6, 2012
Well we certainly aren’t winning anything next year. This is still between Giants and Philly. Something tells me the Redskins end up with a better record than us. Hopefully Jerry Jones finally mans up and cuts Romo.
Brandon10 - February 6, 2012
When this year was it ever between the Eagles?
thebigham - February 6, 2012
they were in it thru November IIRC.
StarloverinWNC - February 6, 2012
no they never really were.
They never lead and never got past 3rd place in the division.
thebigham - February 6, 2012
Until the last day of the season, when the Eagles vaulted past eh Cowboys into second place
Seanrude - February 6, 2012
but were already eliminated the week prior
they were never in control of their own destiny at any point of the season after week 2
starbury_to_s-jaxci2000 - February 6, 2012
Yeah
But they had a share of the division lead after one game, and did play good football for a good part of the season. Besides, this season is a success to them because they beat the Cowboys twice.
Jessy S - February 6, 2012
Good for them, that makes them idiots.
And what star said, the Eagles were never in control of anything.
thebigham - February 7, 2012
The Eagles finished the season ahead of the Cowboys in the standings. Granted, it took the Cowboys total collapse in the latter quarter fo the season, but I am not so sure we should be trumpeting that fact
Seanrude - February 7, 2012
The point is,
The Eagles were never really in contention for the title of the East this year. They needed a miracle collapse of both NYG and Dal and only one team did.
Now next year is a different story.
thebigham - February 7, 2012
That is true
But the Eagles did have a successful season in that they dominated us while we can look at the silver lining that we dominated Washington which dominated the Giants who won the Super Bowl. Translation, everybody got something this season, at least in the NFC East.
Jessy S - February 7, 2012
until the giants beat the jets.
Eagles finished with a better record than Cowboys. None of this would have happened if Romo didn’t choke vs the Jets and Lions.

BigDumbFace - February 6, 2012
my early picks: 49ers over Texans.
I’m pulling like crazy for the Boys, but there are just too many question marks right now. Give us 2 years.
wtshaolin - February 6, 2012 via mobile
Schaub…meh
A. Smith…double meh
The QB play is why SF wasnt playing for the Championship.
StarloverinWNC - February 6, 2012
They had no WRs.
And 2 fumbles was why they weren’t playing in the Championship.
selke99 - February 6, 2012
49ers will regress
BrickTop - February 6, 2012 via mobile
Agree. Gonna have a 1st place schedule next year.
Lucky for them they still play in the NFC West/Doormat division.
StarloverinWNC - February 6, 2012
And they get the NFC Central too
Chalk up wins over Chicago, Detroit, and Minnesota. Not sure about Green Bay, but you also have Arizona, St. Louis, and Seattle as well. That is nine wins, or so, right there.
Jessy S - February 6, 2012
I wouldn’t call those automatic wins by any stretch. All those teams will be improved next year.
MIN – Ponder with an offseason more time with Harvin, healthy AP, plus additions in draft.
DET – Is already really good.
CHI – A healthy Forte and Cutler, they’ll probably upgrade their WR in the offseason, DEF aint a joke.
I could see SF losing all 4 games against the NFC Central. Seattle will probably be improved as well, especially if they get a legit QB. ST Louis will be better too.
StarloverinWNC - February 7, 2012
True
But here is my take on the three NFC North teams other than Green Bay.
Minnesota: They need to upgrade their defense and they do have quarterback problems because Joe Webb is in the equation too. Remember that I live in Vikings country so the Vikings aren’t so tough. Plus they have very little defense, need to upgrade their offensive line, and AP will be out for at least part of the season due to a ACL injury he suffered in a win over the Redskins.
Detroit: Is good, but I think the San Francisco defense can dominate the game.
Chicago: They are going to have to rebuild one of these seasons. If San Francisco drafts a running back in this draft, Chicago could be in major trouble because of their old defense.
The point I am trying to make is that the 49ers have their schedule, but it can be easy to them and most of the NFC North is not that good. Given the league’s recent history, I would suspect that the two NFC wild card spots will go to the NFC South with either New Orleans, Atlanta, or Carolina winning them with the other team winning the division. They beat a good New Orleans team and lost a overtime game to the Giants. Given that they will face New Orleans and Green Bay, it is a testament to their skill and proof that the NFL Playoffs is a crapshoot.
Jessy S - February 7, 2012
that "first place" schedule effects two games, so its not that huge of a thing
thebigham - February 7, 2012
The Cowboys......
shouldn’t be better than 30-1. Bookies know where the emotional money is going to go and they have to hedge for that.
Cwon1 - February 6, 2012
The Chiefs.......
have a defense, and 60 million under he cap.
Cwon1 - February 6, 2012
And Cassel as QB.
No thanks.
StarloverinWNC - February 6, 2012
they also lost
brian waters
jamaal charles(week 2)
tony moeaki(pre-season)
jonathan baldwin(fractured hand in off season)
i’d expect them with their best defensive players injured and returning for them to re-tool the o-line and make a division run at least
starbury_to_s-jaxci2000 - February 6, 2012
2012-2013 Is the 20th Anniversary of The Triplets winning SB XXVII
I’ll keep saying this until I’m proven wrong, but Romo, Witten, Ware will bring home Lombardi #6 this coming season.

ill be here when the cowboys finish DEAD LAST in this division. Keep putting your hopes on Romo. Year after year he ends up disappointing. Wont be any different next year,
Brandon10 - February 6, 2012

Seriously your beyond pathetic. Do you not have a life? All you do is TRY and complain about Romo. Did your mommy and daddy not give you attention? F*ckin loser

yehti - February 6, 2012 via mobile
Quit poking the hornet's nest.
If we solidify that O-line this offseason and Romo still disappoints us next season with boneheaded game changing mistakes, I’ll start calling for his release.
As it sits currently he just hasn’t been given enough support to surround himself with. He’s got some great skill players but that line has been a patchwork since he started his career with the Cowboys.
StarloverinWNC - February 6, 2012
4,184 Yds, 31 TDs, only 10 INTs
Romo did not disappoint in 2011, moron. The Dallas Cowboys did, as a TEAM. Romo played his heart out… (not to mention his ribs and lungs as well) to put this team in the best position to be there in the end. You’re a fool if you think Romo is the culprit.
gershwin - February 6, 2012
Like McLovin, Brandon is a confirmed Romo hater
They all blame Romo no matter how great he plays and if they ever win a SB, will not give him an ounce of credit as well.
Terry - February 6, 2012
Like Terry...
… no matter how great he plays and if they ever win a SB, will not give him an ounce of credit as well
Oops, that was you about Eli “cooler than the other side of the pillow” Manning and the no credit thing. How’d ya spell that again? h-y-p-o-c-r- what?
tanstaafl - February 6, 2012
Ew. It'd be funny if they weren't picking the Eagles.
Fernie67 - February 6, 2012

TheDemolitionDan - February 6, 2012 via mobile
Gonna have to say if Washington gets a qb
We don’t gotta worry about Philly redskins d will out Philly out lol. When will Vegas learn Andy Reid can’t win a Superbowl.
Sado44 - February 6, 2012 via mobile
Even if the Redskins get a QB, they'll still have a garbage offense
Rohpuri - February 7, 2012 via mobile
hmm
I gotta say, I like the Saints and Texans with those odds.
New Orleans was a tiebraker away from having home playoff games this year, where they routed the competition including the GIants. I wouldn’t take ANYONE in that dome over them.
The texans are just a complete team. Watt was a helluva draft pick, they look like they have a future all pro on their hands. Maybe losing guys like Myers and Mario will hurt them?
I actually kind of think the Giants need more love in those rankings. Eli was superb, JPP seems to be entering elite territory, and they have the talent on the DL and in the secondary to make another run. This is a far more complete team than the 2007 version. I’d switch them and Philly.
I think our ranking is reasonable. Dallas, Baltimore and NYJ are flawed teams – them with qb play, us with our defense. At this point, there is no reason to say we’d be a super bowl team next year other than hope we can sign or draft a pass rush talent.
foyesboys - February 6, 2012
I like the Texans Also
I would say had they had Schaub Healthy, The NFL is crowning them Champs….
I doubt The Giants beat a Healthy Texans Team(they barely beat a beat up New England team)
Not trying to take away what the Giants D did(that D-Line was textbook the last drive), but I doubt that against a healthy Texan Team, who could actually run the ball, with a Healthy Schaub tossing to Andre(who missed alot of this season)
the Texans are going to be scary next year, especially if they can resign Mario to a reasonable deal.
I am Ironman!!! - February 7, 2012
They don't need Mario.
thebigham - February 7, 2012
I was shocked how well they did without Schaub
that is one solid team.
dunkman - February 7, 2012
You guys are over-valuing Schaub. The reason they did so well without him is because he’s not that good. There was very little drop off from him to the second string.
StarloverinWNC - February 7, 2012
If I had to bet on one of them
I think New Orleans is the best value at 10-1. As long as they can play at home in the playoffs, they look rock-solid.
