KDP's 10 For 10: "Elite Eight" NFL Playoff Bracket Challenge

2012 Playoff Bracket Challenge

2012 Playoff Bracket Challenge

You didn't think the fun was over, did you? There are still eight teams alive and in the hunt for a Lombardi Trophy which means there are still games for you to pick. Contrary to popular belief... ok, personal belief, the NFL season didn't screech to a halt when the Cowboys were eliminated. Although it should have. Regardless, our pick'em contest starts anew for the divisional rounds of the tournament.

It's time to play PLAYOFF SEVEN FOR SEVEN!

Think NCAA brackets here, I need someone to correctly pick ALL 7 of the playoff games. That means that you have to pick the winners of this coming weekends four games, the Conference Championships AND the Super Bowl in Indianapolis. If you pick even one game incorrectly, you are eliminated. And to make it all the more interesting, you have to predict all 7 games before THIS Saturday! That's right, just like March Madness. Here's a blank bracket:

8team_medium

Follow the jump for more details on how to enter.

Star-divide

Here are the remaining playoff games, including this weekend's kickoff times.

Game 1: New Orleans @ San Francisco, Saturday 430p Eastern

Game 2: New York @ Green Bay, Sunday 430p Eastern

Game 3: Denver @ New England, Saturday 8p Eastern

Game 4: Houston @ Baltimore, Sunday 1p Eastern

Game 5(NFC Championship): NO/SF WINNER vs NY/GB WINNER

Game 6(AFC Championship): DEN/NE WINNER vs HOU/BAL WINNER

Game 7(Super Bowl): AFC Champ vs NFC Champ

SUPERBOWL FINAL SCORE: WINNER: ____ LOSER: ____

Obviously, you must make a Super Bowl Final Score prediction because that will be used as a tiebreaker in case multiple people go Seven For Seven.

Here's a sample bracket, just copy/paste the template then bold the winners from this weekend. Move those teams into the appropriate slots for Games 5-7:

Game 1: New Orleans @ San Francisco, Saturday 430p Eastern

Game 2: New York @ Green Bay, Sunday 430p Eastern

Game 3: Denver @ New England, Saturday 8p Eastern

Game 4: Houston @ Baltimore, Sunday 1p Eastern

Game 5(NFC Championship): New Orleans vs Green Bay

Game 6(AFC Championship): New England vs Baltimore

Game 7(Super Bowl): New England vs New Orleans

SUPERBOWL FINAL SCORE: WINNER: 38 LOSER: 30

Alright, get those picks in! Congrats again to our 2011 season champion, Jebediah Flibberbrush.

Game 3: Denver @ New England

Game 4: Houston @ Baltimore

Game 5(NFC Championship): New Orleans @ Green Bay

Game 6(AFC Championship): Baltimore @ New England

Game 7(Super Bowl): Baltimore vs New Orleans: I think Ray Lewis and Ed Reed will go out as champions.

SUPERBOWL FINAL SCORE: Baltimore: 58, New Orleans: 0

I also think the game will be a monster blowout. In this case, the Ravens have too many weapons for the pass happy Saints.

58-0

Come on man against Drew Brees???

Bree' will be gone after this weekend anyhow.
Saints are a good passing team, but Ravens are a good pass rushing team.

How funny would it be if everyone picks the Saints this weekend and the 49ers spoil everyone's entry?

Everyone eliminated after just one game.

I think there will still be a winner

Though nobody will go 7 for 7.

At least that is how the NCAA brackets go as well.

i think the SB Final Score would be treated as indepentent from the participant teams,

though everyone made upon considering who they had as the two finalists

...so that would be a tie-breaker

I am sure you can't make it muddy in the NFL

At least not independent of nature. If the 49ers were to turn on the sprinklers for a home field advantage, they would be disqualified.

doubtful

Packers use to do it all the time. Who is to tell them their stadiums lawn keep habits. Far worse have gone on.

Supposed to have made bold, not caps

I haven’t discussed this with KD yet. I scored all the regular season 10-for-10 entries, and have already begun to tabulate these entries.

I understand what you want, and I will count what you have CAPPED as your entry. However, if KD is taking over scoring of the playoff contest, he may want you to re-submit and bold your entries.

Look for him to reply – “you’re good” or “try again”. As far as I’m concerned, you’re good.

Gee, way to go out on a limb.

Cowboys top seed? Love it.

I read Steve Perkins’ book, Next Year’s Champions. That was written over forty years ago after the Cowboys’ playoff failures against the Packers (66-67) and Browns (68-69). After one more success/fail (making Super Bowl V after the 1970 season, but losing to the Colts), that nickname finally got retired. Forty years ago, the Cowboys won Super Bowl VI, and their success and popularity in the 1970s gave rise to a new (and better) nickname – America’s Team.

Maybe the Cowboys can actually be Next Year’s Champions. That’s better than having the key to the playoffs in their collective hands, and dropping it into a gutter, like this year.

I haven't quite worked out how the opposing team is going to score -3 points in the Super Bowl, but I know that Dallas can do it!!!

It may be delusional, but delusion is much better than reality right now.

That can be done

By scoring points for the other team.

In your case the score would be 64-0.

OK. I'm ready to get mine in.

After a disastrous 1-3 last week in the WC games (which, thankfully, don’t count), with a fresh slate, I offer:

Game 1: New Orleans @ San Francisco, Saturday 430p Eastern
Game 2: New York @ Green Bay, Sunday 430p Eastern
Game 3: Denver @ New England, Saturday 8p Eastern
Game 4: Houston @ Baltimore, Sunday 1p Eastern

Game 5 (NFC Championship): New Orleans at Green Bay
Game 6 (AFC Championship): Baltimore at New England

Game 7 (Super Bowl): Baltimore vs Green Bay
Super Bowl Score: 24-20

I'll be happy with 50%

Game 1: New Orleans @ San Francisco, Saturday 430p Eastern
Game 2: New York @ Green Bay, Sunday 430p Eastern
Game 3: Denver @ New England, Saturday 8p Eastern
Game 4: Houston @ Baltimore, Sunday 1p Eastern

well, 1 for 4 is better than 0 for 4. NFC totally sucked it up.

I think it all went just like it was supposed to.

But then again, you are entitled to your own opinion.

Let's see

New Orleans was favored and lost, Green Bay was favored and lost, where as the AFC has played out pretty much according to who was favored in each contest. So my statement stands, The NFC totally sucked it up. Teams that should have won didn’t. That in my opinion constitutes major sucktitude.

Favored? What a joke.

Those are numbers that are made up and peoples opinions. I’ll take the hot teams any day of the week over the “favored” teams. Giants continue to roll.

oh let’s see hot teams… Yeah, I remember plenty of hot teams getting knocked off because they got high on their horses. Those odds aren’t just made up numbers. They are based on a wide variety of factors including past performances against the upcoming opponent, injuries, all manner of statistical data. Odds aren’t simply thrown out there because of the number of people who like them. When it all comes down to it, the Favored team will win more times than not, even if it is against a team that is hot.

Not in the playoffs.

Throw everything out the window when it comes to a Conference championship game. This game is for the Super Bowl and the players on both teams don’t care if the game is played in a parking lot. It comes down to the team that is most prepared, motivated, and makes the least amount of mistakes that day. Anyone can set odds for a game. I say 49ers +3. There odds set. Doesn’t mean I’m wrong or right, just my opinion. Who care’s who is favored…best team doesn’t always win. Go Giants (only rooting for them because of this contest anyhow).

Baltimore isn't that good, and Texans aren't that bad. Whats the deal?
Early consensus (after Ben24626 post):

After the first thirty-four entries, here is our consensus so far:

  • Game 1 – New Orleans (29-5)
  • Game 2 – Green Bay (25-9)
  • Game 3 – New England (30-4)
  • Game 4 – Baltimore (26-8)
  • Game 5 – NFC Champion: NO-GB-SF-NYG – 19-11-2-2
  • Game 6 – AFC Champion: NE-Bal-Hou-Den – 16-14-3-1
  • Game 7 – Super Bowl Champion: NO-GB-Bal-Hou-Den-NYG-SF – 17-8-4-2-1-1-1

Half of everyone (so far) has picked the Saints to win the Super Bowl. Six other teams combine for the othe half. One team is conspicuously absent: although they have the most AFC picks (so far) to MAKE the Super Bowl, no one (yet) is picking the Patriots to WIN the Super Bowl.

Interesting.

POOOF!!! Tebow vanishes! The RAPTURE !!!

and Eli Manning initiates his Tribulation reign

Hey, Jebediah, I was hoping to hear from the pacesetter this week.

Too funny. I had to rec this for creativity. You are not the first one to pick Denver to go all the way, so I can’t laugh too hard. I can say, that no one will match your tiebreaker references.

Years ago, another quarterback was known as a devout Christian. You’ve heard of him, as he led the Cowboys to their first Super Bowl appearance and their first Super Bowl victory.

An interviewer was asking Roger Staubach once about heaven, and would there be football in heaven. His reply, “Of course there will be football in heaven. Every pass will be a touchdown pass.” The reporter paused a moment and asked Roger, “Well, what about defensive backs?” Staubach’s response, “There won’t be any defensive backs in heaven.”

I wouldn’t want to see seven years of Eli Manning and the Giants raining (reigning?) Tribulation Terror upon the world. Oh, wait. I’m a believer. I’ll be caught up in the rapture. I won’t be around to see it.

Maranatha.

My "moment" with Staubach

Interestingly, I just read Staubach: Portrait of the Brightest Star over my Christmas vacation. The " No DB’s in heaven" quote was mentioned there.

My dad took me to my first NFL game at Candlestick Park when I was 9 years old. Cowboys @ 49ers in 1979 (Cowboys won 21-13).

Heismann trophy winners Roger Staubach and OJ Simpson were playing the final season of their NFL careers (I don’t think we realized it at the time). We had seats in the front row of the end zone. During the pre-game, Roger & OJ met in the back of the end zone right in front of us. They shook hands and chatted for a minute or two so close we could hear the conversation. I could have stretched out and touched their helmets.

Hmmm. My Dad snapped a picture of them. I should check and see if he still has it.

Oh yeah.

I’m pretty sure I won’t hit on the Broncos and the Giants playing in the Super Bowl…

But I think there’s a real good chance that Eli Manning is the Antichrist.

Really don't want SF to win a 6th SB

But when I calculate head to head matchups that D keeps coming up big.
And the 2 Defenses they potentially face are bad enough to let their Off get moving a score 21 points or more and I think that will win it for them.

Like Harbaugh, hate another team moving ahead of us in trophies.

Get your GM @&& in gear Jerry and delegate more personnel decisions to Stephen and Jason!!! We are falling behind in the long game.

Shoulda been AND score 21 and 3 potential Def

But why let editing get in the way of a good rant?

After one game, over half of us have no chance of winning.

Thanks, 49ers. I’ll post a summary/update in a few minutes.

OK, here's the update after Division Game #1, and it "ain't" pretty.

Last year, KD included Wild Card week in his Playoff Contest, but chose not to include that this year, because it made picking all eleven games a virtual impossibility.

With KD’s permission, I ran a Wild Card picks, and only one out of twenty-three (ziggy 19) got all four games right. So, here are the numbers from this “simpler, easier” contest:

Participants – 46

Division Games (Visitor / Home):
Game #1 – New Orleans 39 / San Francisco 7
Game #2 – New York Giants 12 / Green Bay 34
Game #3 – Denver 6 / New England 40
Game #4 – Houston 10 / Baltimore 36

Conference Champion (#4 / #3 / #2 / #1):
Game #5 – NYG 3 / NO 25 / SF 3 / GB 15
Game #6 – Den 3 / Hou 5 / Bal 18 / NE 20

Super Bowl Winner (most / least):
Game #7 – NO 23 / GB 10 / Bal 5 / Den 3 / Hou 2 / SF 2 / NYG 1 / NE 0

I did a preliminary tally earlier after thirty-four picks, and commented on two oddities:

  • exactly half the field picked the Saints to win the Super Bowl
  • no one picked the Patriots to win the Super Bowl

After all forty-six got in, the same was true:

  • exactly half (twenty-three) picked the Saints to win it all
  • none of the forty-six picked the Patriots to win it all

New Orleans was far and away the pick to make the Super Bowl (25 picks) and to win (23 picks). Only two picked the Saints to make the Super Bowl and lose. However, the Patriots were the most popular AFC pick to make the Super Bowl (20 picks). But, all twenty picked them to lose.

Game #1 is done, and Game #3 is in progress:

Most of us are now one-and-done, thanks to the 49ers late come-from-behind score to beat the Saints. Only nine out of forty-six got that right, and are still playing for the perfect 7-for-7.

If none of the nine make it all the way, KD may consider recognizing the best among those who got the Super Bowl winner right and picked the most winners along the way.

Here’s the best you can hope for, after game #1:

  • picked 49ers, you are still alive for 7-for-7
  • picked Saints to beat the 49ers and lose next week, you are still alive for 6-for-7
  • picked Saints to make the Super Bowl, but lose to the AFC, you are still alive for 5-for-7
  • picked Saints to win the Super Bowl (half of us), you can still go 4-for-7

Here are the seven that got game #1 right, and are still alive for 7-for-7:

  • CotySaxman, lildrummerboy, Mikellie, Nord15, Rome One, thebigham, Travlr
  • six of the seven picked New England to defeat Denver; only CotySaxman picked Denver
  • so, after tonight’s game, there will be six (or only one) who survived day one of this contest

I will continue to track and match winner(s) and their picks in the upcoming games. I will also tabulate best scores, to see who has the best scores overall.

At this moment, New England appears in control against the Broncos, so let me project, with that assumption:

  • the above six players correctly picked SF and NE to win at home
  • three each are picking Baltimore and Houston in the early game on Sunday
  • in each group of three, two are picking Green Bay and one is picking the Giants

So, whoever wins the Houston-Baltimore game, three will win and three will lose. Of the three winners, a Packers win knocks out the one who picked the Giants; or, a Giants win knocks out the two who picked the Packers.

After tomorrow, there will only be either two perfect scores (if GB wins) or one (if NY wins). A little over six hours ago, there were forty-six of us looking for perfection.

That’s as far as I care to project right now. After the Sunday games, I will highlight what is ahead for our one or two perfect pickers. I will also track everyone’s scores from this weekend and list how the rest of us did that aren’t perfect.

That assumption was correct - Patriots held on against Broncos

So, out of forty-six that began yesterday playing 7-for-7, only six survive the day. And, because of their picks, there will only be one or two alive after Sunday’s division games.

The six split evenly between Houston and Baltimore, so three will remain perfect depending on who wins the early game. Then, two of the three winners (either way) have the Packers and one has the Giants.

If the Packers, win, then two will go 4-for-4. If the Giants win, then only one will go 4-for-4 (same as last week).

I’ll update who and what later, along with a look at whom the perfect picker(s) selected in the conference finals, and how the rest of us scored on the division weekend.

Boom goes the dynamite!
Way to go 'big. You hadn't played 10-for-10 in a while,

but you shook off the rust. Forty fell yesterday, and you are one of the six still standing tall.

Good job.

haha not anymore booooo
And there were three...

Only three of our original forty-six made it to 3-for-3, picking all home teams the way that ziggy 19 did with the Wild Card games – picking all four home teams.

With one more game remaining in the divisional round, we are down to these three:

  • lildrummerboy, Mikellie, and Nord15

Who will go 4-for-4, and remain alive for 7-for-7?

  • if Packers win – both lildrummerboy and Nord15
  • if Giants win – only Mikellie

All have completely different picks in the conference finals and Super Bowl, so no tiebreakers will be needed. Each one has his NFC pick winning it all, and each has a different team winning. Depending on the AFC results, there could still easily be no one at 7-for-7.

I will keep you posted.

If no one goes 7-for-7, KD may wish to make some consolation recognitions. It is still possible for anyone to go 6-for-7, as long as he only lost with New Orleans, Denver, or Houston in the division round and did not project any of those teams to advance to the Super Bowl.

At current count (after three division games), there are still nine others who are alive for 6-for-7 (missed a division game, but could still get everything else right). I’ll keep monitoring that as well.

I’ll update again after the Giants and Packers finish up, and congratulate the perfect 4-for-4 score(s).

4-0

Next week the 49er’s and Ravens fall.

Congratulations again (see below)

and, as always, thank you for your service.

Well done, sir, this weekend. Your competitors have all fallen, and you alone, completed the weekend without a miss.

Only one left...Mikellie.

Only Mikellie completed the weekend of division games with a perfect 4-for-4. Can he go a perfect 7-for-7? His remaining picks:

  • NFC Championship – New York over San Francisco
  • AFC Championship – New England over Baltimore
  • Super Bowl – New York over New England

Can it happen? Sure. Will it happen? We’ll see.

If not, who else is left that could go 6-or-7?

  • Nord15 (missed GB; still has SF / Bal / SF)

Everyone else has missed two or more this weekend, and/or has one or both conference championships going to teams who lost this weekend.

There is no way that anyone else can do better than four right,

because of our favored teams that lost already:

  • NFC Championship – 40 out of 46 have either NO or GB; only 6 have SF or NYG (bad)
  • AFC Championship – only 8 out of 46 have Den or Hou; 38 have Bal or NE (not so bad)
  • Super Bowl – 38 out of 46 have winners that are one and done; only 8 have Bal (5), SF (2), or NYG (1); no one picked NE (also bad)

Everyone that finished the weekend 3-for-4 picked a Super Bowl winner that lost this weekend. That means their best possible is 4-for-7 (at least two more losses). A few who finished 2-for-4 also have the possibility of finishing 4-for-7.

But, only Mikellie or Nord15 can finish higher. They are on opposite sides of the NFC Championship, and they also have opposite picks in the AFC. So, at least one of them must finish at least 5-for-7. Here are their possible outcomes next week:

  • Mikellie gets both right (NYG / NE) and is 6-for-6; Nord15 would then miss both and be 3-for-6
  • each gets one right; Mikellie is 5-for-6; Nord15 is 4-for-6
  • Nord15 gets both right (SF / Bal) and is 5-for-6; Mikellie would then miss both and be 4-for-6

Both are picking their NFC team to win the Super Bowl.

Bottom line – Mikellie is in a one-man race for a perfect 7-for-7; Nord15 is the only other one who can catch Mikellie and post the highest score in KD’s Playoff Contest.

Some are dead already – all their remaining picks (NFC champ, AFC champ, and SB champ) lost this weekend. So, their current score is their final score.

At least, everyone got at least one right. No one got shut out this weekend and went 0-for-4..

I missed one more mathematical possibility. Sorry, travlr.

If the remaining games fall correctly, then there would be a three-way tie at 5-for-7 for the best overall record.

Travlr only got two right this weekend, but his two are his picks to move on to the Super Bowl. So, if his remaining picks all win, then he will tie with Mikellie and Nord15 for the top record for the playoffs.

Here’s how this can happen:

  • AFC – NE wins; Mikellie is 5-for-5; Nord15 is 3-for-5; Travlr is 3-for-5
  • NFC – SF wins; Mikellie is 5-for-6; Nord15 is 4-for-6; Travlr is 4-for-6
  • Super Bowl – SF wins; Mikellie is 5-for-7; Nord15 is 5-for-7; Travlr is 5-for-7

Again, Mikellie is the only one who can go 7-for-7. Nord15 is the only other one who can finish as high as 6-for-7. But, I erred earlier in omitting Travlr as a 5-for-7 option.

If I had only done the math before posting, I wouldn’t have missed this one.

Congratulations to the wheat from the chaff section.

Good Luck to you Nord15.
Good luck to you, Mikellie.

I would love to see someone actually go 7-for-7..

KD tried it last year as an 11-for-11, including the Wild Card games (actually, he called it 10-for-10 with the Super Bowl pick as a tiebreaker), and no one came close.

This may be too hard as well, if only one out of forty-six can get the four division winners right.

I’m pulling for you, and hope to see you get it.

Thank you, hookerhome.

If I do possibly go 7-for-7, I will send you my address so you can mail me my prize. lol

Me? This is KD's contest. He's the Lone Ranger. I'm just the faithful Indian companion.

He’s the one with the combination to the SB Nation prize vault (unless O.C.C set an undecipherable combination that no one can open).

I’m sure he will be able to send you something tangible, but you may have to stand in line behind Jebediah Flibberbrush and all of the regular season 10-for-10 Hall of Fame inductees. They’re still waiting for theirs.

Oh, I was just kidding around anyhow. I didn't think there was a real prize or anything.

I was thanking you for the good luck wish.

KD may have actually had something to give out last year

when he was doing this as a FanPost before he made the front page. And, the entire contest was much smaller. I don’t think he had more than twenty or thirty play all year.

This year, on the front page, he began with eighty plus the first week, and then it got bigger. He does actually hope to be able to get SOMETHING – maybe have a sponsor provide goodies and get their name on the contest. But, so far, it’s all nothing but talk and humor.

The physical 10-for-10 Hall of Fame only exists in our minds.

Everyone understands that all of our talk about prizes, awards, and induction into the Hall is all talk. But, it’s fun talk, and this has been a fun year with KD’s 10-for-10.

I've got a mental trophey room

Filled with all the accolades I won growing up, including my very first victory at hot potato

I have a mental trophy room also.

My trophies consist of…Bo Derek, Cheryl Tiegs, Jessica Alba, Angelina Jolie, Megan Fox, etc.

Well, the best I can hope for is 3 for 7 seeing as my NFC picks went way wrong, and my SB favorite won’t win, since they aren’t going to be in it. So, chalk up two automatic Ls for me, and should Baltimore show up versus NE and make it, then I will have been perfect on my AFC picks only. What is the deal with the NFC this year?

We are closer to the NFC teams than the AFC teams

and can get caught up in the hype.

This is remarkably similar to 2008, when a vaunted NFC juggernaut went one-and-done (lost in the division round to a team that followed its defensive front and some lucky plays, through the frozen tundra, to the Super Bowl, felling an “unbeatable” team on the way).

In 2008, the NFC juggernaut was Our Heroes, and we’re still getting fallout from that failure. In 2008, the unbeatable team was the 18-0 Patriots in the Super Bowl. In 2008, the Giants’ path to the Super Bowl had them knocking off the Packers on the frozen tundra.

After yesterday’s game, Mikellie’s scorecard is looking more and more viable.

Just watching how the Giants have been playing the past month

made a lot of sense to me to pick them. More times than not, the home field advantage in this round holds up, but Green Bay’s defense isn’t good enough to beat an elite QB, which I think Eli has been in his last 4 games. The Giants have also gotten healthy and their D-Line is playing lights out. On the other side, New England is one of the hardest places to win a game in the NFL. They have home field throughout, so that made that pick easy for me also. As far as picking the Super Bowl winner, I think the Giants can put enough pressure on Brady to keep him off balance and will come up with a game plan to slow down Gronkowski. Giving Belichick another 2 week period to prepare is going to be tough, but I think the Giants still take it.

Update after AFC Championship Game

There are two scenarios remaining for finishing at the top after today:

If the Giants win:

  • Mikellie goes to 6-for-6 and needs a Giants win in the Super Bowl for 7-for-7
  • Everyone else will be locked into their final scores with a six-way tie for second place at 4-for-7

If the 49ers win:

  • and lose the Super Bowl, Mikellie finishes at 5-for-7 and finishes alone with the top score
  • and win the Super Bowl, then Nord15 and Travlr will also go 5-for-7 and tie for the best overall record in KD’s contest

The only team in the division round of the playoffs that no one chose to win the Super Bowl was the Patriots. So, the three above are the only ones who can “win the Super Bowl” (Mikellie – Giants; Nord15 and Travlr – 49ers).

If the 49ers win the Super Bowl, then I guess the three-way tie would be broken by the scores that Nord15 (24-17) and Travlr (24-20) submitted.

Forty of us have NFC Championship winners that are not Giants or 49ers (three each), so forty-three of us will lose this game and only three will have the winner correct:

  • Mikellie, Jebediah Flibberbrush, and Rome One have the Giants
  • CotySaxman, Nord15, and Travlr have the 49ers

As mentioned above, only those three (Mikellie, Nord15, and Travlr) are still alive for a Super Bowl winner. The other forty-three picked teams that will not be playing in the Super Bowl.

I will make another update after the 49ers and Giants are done and give everyone else’s final scores. No one got shut out; everyone got at least one right.

Congratulations, Mikellie - 6-for-6 - and winner of KD's Playoff Contest

With the Giants’ win, everyone is done and locked into their final scores with one exception.

Mikellie is a perfect 6-for-6, and will finish with a perfect 7-for-7 if the Giants win the Super Bowl. He is the only one who is picking the Giants to win the Super Bowl; no one picked the Patriots. So, the other forty-five of us will be watching with our scores complete.

Here is how the other forty-five of us finished KD’s 7-for-7 Playoff Contest:

  • 4-for-7 – BigBad Joe, jstaubach, lildrummerboy, rioplayer7, Rome One, ziggy 19
  • 3-for-7 – accidental innuendo, Anthony_21, Ben24626, gasman8, Hookem Up, Jebediah Flibberbrush, KD Drummond, Mikhaili, Nord15, One.Cool.Customer, Rohpuri, slowmotion80, Specific, Terry, thruthicknthin, Travlr
  • 2-for-7 – 1Bullseye, Aaron Burtam, CotySaxman, Cowboys_Attack, DarkKnight88, demarcus94, hookerhome, illcowboy, Jessy S, mdlusk, pballinboxer, Portland’s Cowboy fan, scotscowboyfan, StarloverinWNC, staubachfan, TARHEEL PAUL, thebigham
  • 1-for-7 – Benthere, CDMac24, Damnsammit, jazzbo251, meisternance, Silverblue

I know that my Wild Card Week wasn’t official, and I added it in as a FanPost when KD chose not to include the wild card games in his playoff contest this year. If we combine all the playoff scores from the three rounds of the playoffs (wild card, division, conference), here are those top combined scores (not everyone played both contests):

  • 8-for-11 – ziggy 19 (4-for-4 on Wild Card games; 4-for-7 on this contest)
  • 7-for-11 – jstaubach (3-for-4, 4-for-7)
  • 6-for-6 – Mikellie (DNP, 6-for-6, NYG in Super Bowl)
  • 6-for-11 – Ben24626 and Specific (each 3-for-4, 3-for-7)
  • 5-for-11 – Hookem Up, One.Cool.Customer, Travlr (each 2-for-4, 3-for-7)

Mikellie, I salute you, sir. Well done. I’m never in favor of pulling for a division rival, but I will pull for the Giants in the Super Bowl and hope that you finish a perfect 7-for-7.

I wish you had played my Wild Card Contest to see how you would have matched up in all eleven games, and hope you play KD’s 10-for-10 every week next season (I know, you played this season, but only the first week).

Thanks. I'm about as lucky as the Giants.

And boy are they lucky! For some reason, I thought that the 10 for 10 contest was just for a certain group of people. Actually, I don’t even remember playing in week one. But I will for sure play next year. Thanks for your work on this contest. This is the first pool or contest that I have ever won. Can’t wait for the draft and next season to start. Go Cowboys!!

You did play in week #1, but only in week #1. See if this rings a bell...

Here’s the link to your entry. The other (about bolding on a Macbook) was just above on the page.

You did not do nearly as well that week – only 5-for-10. But, hey, week #1 was a tough week. No one really knew what to expect from any of the teams after the lockout. The best score that week was 8-for-10. I only got four right myself, but I finished the season tied for 20th place overall (eleven back of the winner in seventeen weeks; that’s not too bad).

We had a total of 162 who played at least one week, but only 84 (just over half) who played at least five weeks. We averaged almost 77 participants every week.

I got into the picture because KD was overwhelmed by the response this season. Last season, he was not a front-page writer, and began his contest as a FanPost, with around two-three dozen participating each week.

This season, there were eighty-one the first week. I tracked them just to see how everyone did. When I offered my services to KD to track the contest for the year, he was grateful to accept my offer.

We had the largest weekly participation in week #3, after the dramatic win over the 49ers, and with the Redskins looming on Monday Night Football. Ninety-six picked that week – the record for KD’s contest. We stayed in the mid-70s to low-80s the rest of the way until the final three (holiday) weekends.

All I can say, Mikellie, is welcome back. I hope that you do complete the Playoff Trifecta (division, conference, and Super Bowl) with a perfect 7-for-7. I don’t know that anyone, anywhere, did that – pick those seven playoff winners, all in advance (before confirming the subsequent matchups).

I do remember that now.

I was just starting to post and reply and didn’t know how to block quote, post pics, or do anything at all. Once I figured it all out, it has been great! I have read a lot of teams sites and no one has the writers that this site has. Amazing articles and never a lack of material to read. Most of the members are also good guys and it’s fun to watch how conversations take certain turns and we end up talking about things like what we had for dinner or something. I look forward to participating more next season. Can’t wait! Thanks again for making me feel like part of the family.

CONGRATULATIONS, Mikellie! You did it.f

Way to go – a perfect 7-for-7 – you got them all right; all four division winners, both conference champions, and the Super Bowl.

Incredible, and well done.

Thank you very much.

Never done this before. too bad I didn’t place bets on all those games! Thanks for all your hard work. See you next year.
