After moving on from longtime employee Dave Campo in the secondary, the Cowboys made another transition in one of the team's biggest trouble areas from the 2011 season.
Longtime offensive line guru and running game coordinator Hudson Houck has retired, creating an opening on Jason Garrett's assistant coaching staff. That vacancy was quickly filled by former Oakland Raiders head coach Bill Callahan.
The Dallas Cowboys have hired former New York Jets line coach Bill Callahan to replace legendary offensive line coach Hudson Houck, who has decided to retire after 29 years in the NFL, Houck confirmed Tuesday night.
The Cowboys are also hiring Cleveland Browns Jerome Henderson as their new defensive backs coach, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
Whether or not Houck was asked to retire or is leaving on his own volition isn't known, but he is leaving with grace and class.
"I've had a great time, been part of a lot of winning teams and I've enjoyed a lot of wonderful relationships," said Houck. "I plan on meeting with (Cowboys owner) Jerry Jones tomorrow to just express my gratitude for what he's done for me and my family. It's time for me and Elsie (his wife) to enjoy the grandkids even more."

Callahan has spent time as an assistant in Philadelphia and Oakland, before taking over for Jon Gruden and leading the Raiders to the 2002 Super Bowl. He also has recently served as the head coach for the University of Nebraska, prior to spending the last three seasons in New York with the Jets as Assistant Head Coach.
In 2008, three of the offensive linemen (with Bill Callahan as their position coach) from the Jets were named to the Pro Bowl-center Nick Mangold, guard Alan Faneca and tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson. All three repeated in 2009. Under Callahan's direction of the running game the Jets broke the franchise record in 2009 gaining 2756 yards on the ground through 16 regular season games. They led the National Football League in rushing and averaged 4.5 yard per attempt.
Meanwhile of the defensive side of the ball, Dallas moved quickly to replace Dave Campo. Jerome Henderson has spent the last three years coaching defensive backs for the Cleveland Browns. Here's part of his bio from their website.
In 2010, Henderson was instrumental in the development of cornerback Joe Haden and safety T.J. Ward, both of whom were consensus all-rookie selections...Prior to joining the Browns, Henderson spent the previous two seasons as a member of the New York Jets’ staff. Under Henderson’s guidance as defensive backs coach in 2008, cornerback Darrelle Revis earned a Pro Bowl berth after leading the team with five interceptions. In 2007, Henderson split duties as an assistant defensive backs coach and director of player development. He first joined the Jets in 2006 as the director of player development
Henderson played eight seasons as a defensive back in the NFL after New England made him a second-round draft choice in 1991. He played with the Patriots (1991-93, 1996), Buffalo (1993-94), Philadelphia (1995) and the Jets (1997-98) in his NFL career, during which time he appeared in 98 games with 34 starts. He recorded nine career interceptions. Henderson played in two Super Bowls, with the Bills in Super Bowl XXVIII and with New England in Super Bowl XXXI.

Wasn't sure how I initially felt about Callahan
but that more I think about it the better I feel. Callahan presided over the Jets O-line that got them to back to back AFC Championship games. My good friend who is a Jets fan and a Nebraska fan (giving him a reason to despise Callahan) was very complimentary of his O-line coaching skills. Those are two good signs.
As for Henderson, the guy has developed Joe Haden and TJ Ward, two of the best rookie DBs to come out in the last 5 or 10 years. Enough said.
Creasy729 - January 11, 2012
Amen to that.
After reading more about Callahan, I am extremely pleased with this hire. Seems like he is one of the few elite o-line coaches out there, and now we got him. He’s also apparently, a pretty good offensive mind as well, which is always nice to add to the staff.
Cowboys Dominance - January 11, 2012
Former HC is a good move - SB experience a plu
Look at the other teams in the league.
Their HC benefits from having a staff with former HC’s who know the ropes/can help offset
the burden for the leader.
Like the fact that he and Henderson have been in a SB. We need that type of experience
to let the team know what the real goal is, and also let them know how precious the opportunity is, especially when you don’t win
oldtimer - January 11, 2012
I like the fact that he also played the position. That helps him truely understand not just the book part, but what really happens on the field.
Rena - January 11, 2012
To be fair...
D’Brickashaw, Mangold, and Fanecea were all first round draft picks…they should be making the probowl.
Goody4 - January 12, 2012
so I guess Tyron Smith and Doug Free are a lock to go to the Pro Bowl
I like the fact that he will be the OC, hopefully a better fit with Garrett then Garrett-Phillips. Quite the coach, I guess we can expect out rushing TDs to triple next year and double the year after that because that’s what he did with the Jets. What wiil he do for a team that rushed for 1,800 yards last year? We’ll probably break 2,000 and score 15 TDs.
Yeah, I would say it is a good pickup… how long before Jon Gruden shows up?
scraig - January 14, 2012
we wont know if Callahan is an upgrade until the season starts.
i did see that running game & OL in general regress at times. the Jets were pretty aggrssive about going after Spranao & replacing the current OC+OL coach. i’m going to wait until i see some preseason games before judging this hire.
if theres one positive that jumps out about the hire of Henderson is he seems to have an eye for elite talent at the CB/Safety position. theres plently of DB’s taken in the 3rd-7th rounds that become great players so hopefully he can find some value if thats the route they go
DCNation73 - January 11, 2012
Got to be more
to this with the Callahan hiring. He was an Asst HC for the Jets and he doesn’t get a similar title here? There’s some grumbling in NY should have been in play for the OC job, but the team didn’t commit. Wonder if a certain twin brother put the word out…
tdships - January 11, 2012
I was thinking along the same lines
It looks like the Jets may have wanted to clean house offensively, and perhaps they let Schottenheimer save face. Can’t blame them, really—Schottenheimer and his staff weren’t getting it done, and if they’re going to stick with Mark Sanchez, they need to find a real QB whisperer for him, and it makes sense for the Jets to start over on that side of the ball.
Admiral Dallas - January 11, 2012
No, he was unhappy.
I saw an article in the New York Post that he has turned down contract extensions this year, following the team’s refusal to let him interview for another job last off season. They wanted to keep him, and the players did, too.
Also looks like Sparano is replacing Schottenheimer.
Tom Ryle - January 11, 2012
Yeah, those Ryans talk, if there's one thing that there good at is talking... getting them to shut up is the challenge
The Jets won when they could control the line of scrimmage… and that’s how we lost. Our biggest needs were filled at coaching 1st, if there’s one thing Garrett can do its get the best coaches. Lets see what we can get out of the draft and UFA but this is a good start. If Garrett-Callahan becomes Gruden-Callahan then the NFC Championship is not far away.
scraig - January 14, 2012
hmm cant say i know much on these 2 gents.....
but i hope that they will instill a hunger and a burning unquenchable fire to succeed and focused direction in the players they teach .
IRONRAVEN - January 11, 2012
Callahan...I don't know about this hire.
As a Nebraska fan Mr. Bill managed to take a team that had not had a loosing season in 38 years and screwed them up. Maybe he was not a good college guy but the word around that locker room was that he caused/allowed the whole locker room to turn on itself. It became a cancerous place. I pray that does not happen here (but it seems to have just happened in NY…so there is cause for worry that in Oakland, Nebraska and NY all had bad locker rooms with him there). Don’t want to trash him, but I am worried. I hope I can look back on this a say it is the best hire we have ever had!
LiveNDieBlue - January 11, 2012
Well, it always helps to hear what the people are saying who actually work with him
In early January, Jets RG Brandon Moore and LG Matt Slauson spoke highly of Callahan, hoping he stays, but there were traces of resignation in their voices.
One.Cool.Customer - January 11, 2012
Saw that last night.
Looks like this was a good hire.
Tom Ryle - January 11, 2012
love it
scottmaui - January 11, 2012
it all sounds good
hopefully he can find this offense a Center like Nick Mangold. next to Big Brick the LT i would put Mangold as the 2nd most important player on that OL.
Romo would benefit from an elite Center
DCNation73 - January 11, 2012
Hudson Houck 2... HUGE opportunity for Demarco and Felix to max their potential in '12
scraig - January 14, 2012
I am glad for some turnover
but I am also a lifelong Cornhusker fan and this guy drove that program into the ground. At least he only has a limited job here and is not in charge.
I guess we are all in with JG now and have to trust him for the next few years.
Billito - January 11, 2012
The loss...
…of partial qualifiers when moving to the Big 12 is what drove the Nebraska program into the ground. Blaming Callahan must be easier though.
danielt - January 11, 2012
???
Is this a joke or just the dumbest thing I have ever read?
When exactly did they “move” to the big 12 and why did Osbourne win so many championships in the big 12 if that division drove nebraska into the ground?
Why did Solich do so well after Osbourne?
What you meant to say is that Callahan got rid of the power option game and tried to implent a pro-style passing offense which failed miserably. He and the AD left a once stellar program in shambles which is starting to show some life now.
But making things up must be easier though.
Billito - January 11, 2012
At Nebraska, he was managing like 90 players, not to mention a coaching staff, boosters, dealing with the university itself. Some guys are built for that. Some aren’t. Callahan obviously wasn’t. In Dallas he’ll only have to worry about 8-10 players and can just be a coach. Big difference.
JimmyK - January 11, 2012
good call
yehti - January 11, 2012 via mobile
Who was the C on OAK
that basically destroyed the team’s SB appearance by basically going out on a bender in TJ the night before the game – Barrett Robins? That was a good OL under HC Callahan, but fell apart as the team collapsed the following year.
Apparently Robin’s issues centered around being bi-polar
tdships - January 11, 2012
Yeah, and he robbed a jewelry store a few years after he was out of the league. I believe he’s in jail now.
JimmyK - January 11, 2012
That superbowl was here in San Diego and I saw Robins at a bar
The night before the game. He was in the corner in a booth at Moondoggies doing shots and crying, it was really weird.
Nardfather - January 11, 2012
Moondoggies? I used to live 8 blocks from there.
fs65 - January 11, 2012
Gruden-Callahan took at 4-12 team and made them 12-4 and AFC Champions in 2 years...
then he goes to NY and does the same thing with Ryan-Schotty – 4-12 to 9-7, 9-7, 11-5 losing in to AFC Championship games. The question is can he do it in Dallas? He’s just 1 coach but he could be an upgrade over what Garrett-Houck did for us this year.
Garrett has an advantage – more time to go get coaches, players, and players will be more prepared – especially guys who need the off-season stuff for development.
scraig - January 14, 2012
Hopefully these aren't the only changes
New coaches sure but it comes down to the players. Guys like Ball and Newman need to be gone. And i don’t know if there is a coach in america that can teach costa how to hike the ball to Romo. Or make sure Doug Free remembers how to block people. Lets get some new players in here!!!
beerman2619 - January 11, 2012
I seriously hope your not suggesting get rid of free
And as for ball guys he might just be on the roster next year I’m almost positive he will be in training camp give the kid a chance with a diffrent coach see if there are improvements if not then they will cut him so.don’t get your hopes up. I’d like to see him gone too ill never trust a guy by the name of ball after watching him destroy our Saftey play in 10.
Sado44 - January 11, 2012 via mobile
If Henderson could bring Browns free safety Mike Adams with him to Dallas
that would be a neat little welcome gift.
One.Cool.Customer - January 11, 2012

DavidLaFleur - January 11, 2012
Well done Jerry, the first step to improving the talent on the team is position coaches who get the most out of their players.
Rohpuri - January 11, 2012

Trueblue122 - January 11, 2012
First order of business.....
Watch game tape, then convince everyone associated with the Dallas Cowboys organization (other than the fans) that Phil Costa is not an NFL center.
fivetwos - January 11, 2012
Yes,
because us fans are smarter than everyone in the cowboys organization.
TARHEEL PAUL - January 11, 2012
The Cowboys organization is not infallible
Or were you one of the ones singing their praises when they drafted the likes of Quincy Carter?
NerdVernacular - January 11, 2012
No.
But im not dumb enough to think I know more than they do.
TARHEEL PAUL - January 11, 2012
I've watched every offensive play from this year a second time at slow speed.
And yeah, if there is anyone who works for the Cowboys that thinks Costa is the answer and/or wasn’t the source of many of the teams problems this season, I do think I know more than they do.
fivetwos - January 11, 2012
No one said they did..
But there are often times where fans are a better judge of talent collectively in regard to specific players than individual scouts are. Why does this team keep giving Alan Ball chances?
God forbid someone have an opinion that disagrees with the front office.
NerdVernacular - January 11, 2012
I can forgive the Ball thing as he wasn't a starter at a key position.
..but I understand what you mean.
fivetwos - January 11, 2012
Of course people have different opinions than the front office
I guess i just worded my comment wrong. But i disagree with your assesment that there are times the fans know better than the scouts. These guys do this for a living. Its there job to get it right. All I was trying to say was that they see the same things that we see. There not stupid. As for Costa, he played very well in the preseason. Very well. Starting him at center this year was the right move in my opinion. Gurode had been on his way down for a couple of years. With his contract, it was time to cut bait and move on. There are a lot of factors that go into who plays and who doesn’t that we dont ever get the chance to see or know about. Costa was the best option we had this year so thats who they played. They know Costa struggled this year. I have no doubt it will be addressed.
TARHEEL PAUL - January 11, 2012
Fair enough.
fivetwos - January 11, 2012
in Costa and Ball's case I am guessing they were the lesser of all evils
when you have LOFT problems on your o-line, and defensive secondary- players such as Ball get playing time.
082288 - January 11, 2012
No Way!
I dont agree with this at all. We dont know schems, we dont responsibilities etc to be able to judge the talent on the field like the team does. The team works with these people every day. Alan Ball keeps getting chances because we cant change everybody on the team. Alan has had good moments on the field and he is a decent sutuational player. We cant have a star at every position. You are flat out crazy if you think that a group of fans knows more about a player than the staff that works with them every day, meets with them every day, and coaches them nearly every day!
Oakster41 - January 11, 2012
No, apparently you're dumb enough to think you don't
Football’s not rocket science and the guys coaching in the NFL aren’t exactly Mensa candidates.
CMDR - January 11, 2012
I'm not dumb
and neither is anyone else on this site. I love football. LOVE IT. Its my passion. I eat it, drink it, and sleep it. I DVR every game and watch it 2 and even 3 times. As a matter of fact last night I watched the Tampa game again. We all know its not rocket science. But i just don’t think any of us are equipped with the information and the knowledge that the scouts are. While we are discussing this on BTB, the guys that get paid to do this have been at work for 4 hours trying to address all the things we fuss about. It’s a pointless argument really. And I didn’t mean to start one, I should have worded my comment differently.
TARHEEL PAUL - January 11, 2012
Sigh, don't you love it when armchair coaches REALLY think they know more than the real coaches.
DIRE WOLF - January 11, 2012
Yea, I do
but everybody is entitled to their own opinion. Guess we’re all armchair coaches and scouts.
TARHEEL PAUL - January 11, 2012
what are you looking for when you rewatch it 2 or 3 times?
DCNation73 - January 11, 2012
Everything
Sometimes i will watch it just because nothing else is on tv. But mostly im looking at the offensive and defensive lines. I will literally sit there with my remote and rewind each play 5 times so that i can see how each olineman did on that particular play. I dont take notes or anything like that. I just like to see what happens in the trenches because when you are watching the game live its too hard to pay too much attention to them because you are following the ball. I also pay attention to the RB’s a lot. You can’t really look at db’s or wr’s because they aren’t in the picture the entire play.
I just like to really break things down and take the emotion out of it that I have while watching it live.
TARHEEL PAUL - January 11, 2012
I love to watch the coaches film, you can only see a small portion of the plays on tv replays.
DIRE WOLF - January 11, 2012
Where do you, or we, get Coach's film...I'm in!
And I agree with you, so much is not seen in one or two views of things!
but seriously, how are you getting Coach’s film?
LiveNDieBlue - January 11, 2012
Sorry, I should've said I'd love to watch the coaches film.
DIRE WOLF - January 11, 2012
Yeah, since the network cameras follow the ball, it's hard to see what people
on the off side are doing.
Uncle Angus - January 11, 2012
I'm with you. Give me the coaches film.
I want to see what Jerry and the coaches have been watching all season. Is this the mythical film where Newman is playing tight on his man and intercepting everything thrown his way.
sanhoo - January 11, 2012
Football is not rocket science true
BBut it is not as easy as 2+2 either. I played football since I was 8 I was taught the ins and outs of the game since before I learned to ride a bike I could read the play on the field. I’ve also been teaching my boys the same and I tell you one thing there is a big difference in a spectator I repeat this cause this is what we are SPECTATOR who watches a guy play and a coach or scout who observes and studies how a player moves reacts reads diagnoses and performs on a play by play bases. We see a guy 10 yards off from the ball think wtf is he doing get up there pressure him but what we don’t see is the playcall that the DC has given. We may know what we see while the play is going on and say yea I know that play but each DC draws up his own design of a play and we have no idea what that is. Just keep in mind that football is more than block this guy hold this side run to this point catch the ball. Most plays change as they go and that’s what we can’t see from the TV or stands.
Sado44 - January 11, 2012 via mobile
Loved Quincy!
He was awesome!
Mojoness - January 11, 2012
especially not compared to Nick Mangold
NerdVernacular - January 11, 2012
Denver fans knew enough to play Tebow
now, Tebow has as many playoff victories as Romo.
sanhoo - January 11, 2012
Which clearly means he's as good as Romo
How many Playoff victories does Bradshaw have over Marino? Guess Bradshaw’s better than Dan the Man, then right? BFD, Tebow beat a Steelers team missing half of his defense and won the game on a broken play from the defense.
Omar Little - January 11, 2012
Alan Ball as starting FS
pretty much destroys any arguement about the infallibility of coaches.
Costa as the starting center does a good job as well of making that arguement look pretty bad.
PFF said in 2008 -2010 ANdre Gurode was the 10th best center in the NFL.
In 2010 had him as the 4th best pass blocking center.
The same bunch had costa as the 30th best center overall this year. Those claiming he was better then Gurode are full of it.
They cut Gurode to save money and HOPED Costa would be good enough. They were wrong.
burmafrd1944 - January 12, 2012
Gurode isn't good. He couldn't even get a job in the NFL as a C at all this year from anyone.
The Ravens finally took him as a G, he only started 5 games, guess how he score was?
Per OCC :
Rena - January 12, 2012
Yeah right call...
Though that doesn’t matter to the haters. They should have cut more dead weight than what they did, but they didn’t. In 2010 about a fourth to a third of the roster was dead weight, or about to be dead weight:
Bennett
Hurt
Crayton
Ball
Buehler
Brooking
Colombo
McQuistian
Barber
Williams
Davis
Gurode
Newman
Igor
Barron
Choice
They couldn’t cut all of them at once, it’s the way things go.
Omar Little - January 12, 2012
He'll be in the pro bowl... or he'll be replaced by KK... both of them could make huge strides with OTA's this year
Same for all these young guys, McGee, Carter, Arkin… things will be different. McGee and Arkin will be ready to step in, Carter will start.
scraig - January 14, 2012
Love the Callahan hiring
Guy played QB in college so he knows the importance of a dominant offensive line. I coach oline at the high school level and attended a clinic in which Bill was a guest speaker. The thing that struck me was how technical the guy was, he broke everything down to the nitty gritty like power angles, leverage, precisely where a foot should land to the degree it should be turned. It was almost ridiculous how much of a fundamentalist he was, exactly what we need with a young offensive line!
@Tonekupone - January 11, 2012
And that is why
the young OLinemen we have will be fine. There is not much difference in talent across the board in the league (with some exceptions of course) strength and technique make the difference. Callahan and Woicik will develop a much better line for the Boys next season.
sexililkitti - January 11, 2012
Good insight!
5Blings - January 11, 2012
I remember when Costa was first at camp a year ago and he was talking about how Ratliff was helping him with his technique.
And how important it was for him to have perfect technique due to his short arms. That he lost a lot of leverage with the shorter arms, so he had to be perfect with his hand and foot placement to make up for it.
So this hiring could really help him as well as our other OL.
Rena - January 12, 2012
can't polish a turd
Costa will never be much more then he is now. Mediocre at best.
burmafrd1944 - January 12, 2012
Actually, on an episode of Mythbusters, they did, in fact, polish a turd proving that it can be done.
Grimlock83 - January 12, 2012
I agree he has limitations and possibly will never be a good starter.
He most likely will be a serviceable backup for injuries. But as this was only his 2nd year I would what he can do with a new coach to work with.
Rena - January 12, 2012
also OTA's will help, Costa is NFL-prototype of a Centre that get to the 2nd level...

Not his fault that Jerry didn’t always listen to him…dude is really good at his job. This draft proves it as Jerry finally listened to him.

It helps to have a head coach whose father was a scout.
JG respects their opinions and hopefully they will keep listening to the scouts during free agency and the draft.
txnomad - January 11, 2012
How are you so sure that Ciskowski never made any bad decisions or bad calls as a scout?
Look, even the greats get it wrong. Belichick, who I think is the greatest coach ever, chose Ochocinco over Moss…was that the right decision?

Callahan is a great hire. Not sure he can lead 53 guys, but he’ll be great with 8-10. And with young guys like Smith, Nagy, Costa, Kowalski, and Arkin, not to mention another relatively inexperienced (for his age) guy in Doug Free that’s coming off a brutal year, they kind of have to have a good coach at that spot.
Really good guy, too. My wife’s uncle lives next door to Callahan up here in NJ. Not anymore, I suppose.

My boy is a Raider fan and he said Callahan is a great o-line coach...
He had other thoughts as far as head coach or offensive coordinator but when it comes to the o-line and specifically running the ball in power situations, he had nothing but glowing things to say about him.
Tuna Helper - January 11, 2012
These are both very good hires by Garrett
Nardfather - January 11, 2012

scottmaui - January 11, 2012
+1, These young O-linemen need that off season condition program.
I don’t see Jerry drafting another o-lineman in the 1st round, the guys we got need to get better, fast.
DIRE WOLF - January 11, 2012
this draft will be very D focused
although I could see adding an interior lineman in the 3rd round or something.
but so much of this team’s/offense’s future depends on how many of Costa/Kowalski/Nagy/Arkin can really develop into something
scottmaui - January 11, 2012
Makes me very curious.
The whole team will get stronger and faster, but Im really curious to see how a few of the younger guys react to Woicik. S. Lee, T. Smith, D. Murray & B. Carter.. Hopefully Carter can get acclimated to the NFL and be another S. Lee story. Lee and Murray can only get stronger and faster which will have me goin even crazier on Sundays when I watch them. I really think Smith will become a freakin Beast.. After a full season under his belt he will make the switch to the blind side, where I hope he anchors our line for another decade..
AmericasTeamm - January 11, 2012
BS
Woicik does not work miracles. Get a clue.
burmafrd1944 - January 12, 2012
If Callahan really is what we think...
Costa will not be the center for the Dallas Cowboys in 2012. I predict that Kowalski will be. Costa—if he makes the team, will be a back-up guard. Nagy will probably be the starting RG and backup center. I think they don’t bring Kosier back and probably bring in another FA guard if Montrae can’t come back. Dockery goes…and look for another draft pick as a back-up T and the development of Parnell. Finally look for a more powerful and fired up OL with Woicik and Callahan’s help.

Henderson is a great hire as well
Cleveland has an excellent secondary. He will be a great addition to help Jenkins and Scandrick and whoever they draft

Jason Garrett: The Jerry Whisperer!
Face it, these hires have no Jerry fingerprints. Campo and Houck shown the door. Two respected coaches known for developing talent are on their way here.
This is good news on many levels. The best is that Garrett seems to have the magic touch to soothe the savage beast that is Jerry Jones. The horse still bucks now and again but is calming with each and every passing decision.
Yes, Jason Garrett is “The Jerry Whisperer”

Henderson
Wouldn’t this be a rob Ryan hire. Didn’t rob bring him into Cleveland and wasn’t he suppose to come over last year but since campo stayed he didn’t. Or did I smoke the wrong pipe today.
Sado44 - January 11, 2012 via mobile
These are the kinds of things that just get us excited because they are change
but it is change in the areas where we struggled the most, and both of these guys seem like quality additional to the staff. Callahan’s experience as a head coach should help Garrett with some of the game management issues and ease the calls for him to get a OC other than himself.
scottmaui - January 11, 2012
Spranos OL's & running game was different from Garretts scheme.
Sprano likes the big hogs that mual defenders & Garrett likes more mobile players with speed.
i’m banking on that new secondary coach to find Dallas the Next D.Revis, Joe Haden or TJ Ward!.
i can wait to see who Dallas drafts. My Pet cat is J.Hosley CB from Va.Tech or L.James RB Oregon
DCNation73 - January 11, 2012
Hopefully he can get Free on the right track agian.
Also, does anybody know the word on Free? Was he really playing hurt? He really regressed this year. He looked slow footed and confused out there. Last year he handled the left side pretty well.
beautifultyrant - January 11, 2012
Sounds like 2 upgrades.
Now what about an OC and a D-Line coach?
stubabe - January 11, 2012
I think free was hurt by the move
Of kosier to the right side.
Sado44 - January 11, 2012 via mobile
I agree.
Rena - January 11, 2012
not much of an excuse
when he was getting abused by DEs and OLBs
burmafrd1944 - January 12, 2012
Just saw on Kffl that if Carl Nicks reaches FA we might be interested
I was hoping that would happen last year, so I am all in for that (although I don’t know his age)
LiveNDieBlue - January 11, 2012
Callahan coached Nicks at Nebraska
no way we can land Nicks though, serious money
Archie Barberio - January 11, 2012
great goddamn move here
Jerome Henderson played under Parcells, comes from that school
guy looks really smart and I love his methods after I did some research on him last night
he guided a young Darrelle Revis, TJ Ward and Joe Haden
excellent hire and he knows Rob Ryan, which is great because Rob is officially coming back now
Callahan is another great hire, he is a bad head coach but a great offensive line coach
the Jets OL was one of the best under him
great moves by Jason and Jerry here
really excited by the news
Archie Barberio - January 11, 2012
Yeah, the Henderson hire suggests that Ryan had input here.
I think you’re right that RR is coming back. I believe he thinks he’s got unfinished business here.
Uncle Angus - January 11, 2012
Its about time!!
At this point ANYBODY was a better choice than bring Campo back. Lets be real here, he was HORRIBLE. Now Hud needed to be jettisoned as well. We needed new energy and fresh blood. Too many times I see mistakes, blown assignments, penalties happen with out fear of anything. No coaches yelling, upset, correcting. None of that. We need an infusion of talent, scheme, fundamentals and more. This is a HUGE STEP IMO.
Now can we add Sporano as an Assistant in some capcity. He will yell at his MOMMA…gotta love guys like that who make ppl accountable.
On the mention of Carl Nicks…WOW….that would help. If we can solidify the line things will be so much better. Imagine Romo not having to run for his life on every pass play. But we badly need a more massive sze Center. BTW, Does any one know what happened to the Eagles Center they used to have 2 years ago??. He a was load and mean. Can we find him off of FA and make Costa the backup.
KaiB - January 11, 2012
Sporano is going to be the new OC of the Jets
check out espn.com
Billito - January 11, 2012
Kinda thought that was coming.
DIRE WOLF - January 11, 2012
he's been unlucky with injuries lately
he was on IR after tearing his triceps in the opener against GB this year

Newbie Rec!
Welcome aboard.
fs65 - January 11, 2012
Glad to hear Henderson is coming over, Congrats to him and his wife Traci
Birddog26 - January 11, 2012
Name dropper.
Tom Ryle - January 11, 2012
That is a remark made out of pure envy, by the way.
Tom Ryle - January 11, 2012
LOL
Rena - January 11, 2012
LOL, I know he was checking the site to see the reaction of fans here.
He and his wife and 3 girls are great people. I think that they will fit well in Dallas. Not sure how they will deal with the heat of summer.
Birddog26 - January 11, 2012
Hey, tell him to ignore the media and come to BTB to find out what's really going on.
Tom Ryle - January 11, 2012
+1
djthumpl - January 11, 2012
LOL
StrosSouth - January 11, 2012
Henderson is a great hire
Coaching up Revis the best CB in the league and more recently Joe Haden who probably the best young corner in the game. Mike Jenkins and the rest of our DBs should be excited like I am.
djthumpl - January 11, 2012
Both Needed Changes
In the coaching staff. NOW, if they’ll focus as much attention in terms of personnel changes to the defense THIS year as they did to the offense last year, NEXT year should look a lot better!
Howleyesque - January 12, 2012
I love both of these hires. Fun offseason so far
